Momma daughter crafting

This morning I was showing Mimi and her pals (who are hosting us in Chicago) a little lesson on vintage yoyos. I showed them how I brought a little pile of them on my trip to sketch... Here is the Design Director working on a flower she saw on one of the yoyos.
The other pic is a book I picked up at the American Girl store yesterday full of great re-purposed crafts right up our alley. Can't wait to do those as projects...

Backyard sale, anyone?

Hmmm. Now what to do with all these pouches and this new pile of fresh yoyo hairclips... I'm sensing that it's time for another upscale backyard sale... Anyone? Anyone?

More barrettes

The Design Director and I made that whole string of hair clips right before Easter - in time to give them to all the cousins. We lined them with velcro (the scratchy side) to stay in the hair and had a great time with ribbons, vintage yoyos and scrap buttons from Great-Grammy's collection.
They were well  received and we got a request for more from my sister who wants to give a bunch away as a gift for a family that just welcomed home a baby girl. So here are some of the second batch. Which I believe contains 36 all total... these are just some of my faves. After Victory gets the first pic, some of these may end up on etsy. We'll see.

Pneumonia gets creative - 34 hairclips

Sitting around, sick, tired, with not enough energy even to sew, I decided to make some new hairclips. About 5 years ago, when I was pregnant with the Design Director, I envisioned her coming out like my sister's little one had, looking like our side of the family - with a head of dark, straight hair... as I dreamt of that - I made sweet little hair-clips from ribbon and glue. I imagined sticking them in her downy brown hair and people never having to ask if it was a boy or girl because of the sweet bows and ribbons.
ahem. well, the Design Director came out, bald and as fair as I'd ever seen - with nothing but a tiny tiny bit of fuzz for about 2.5 years. (I'm NOT joking). And the barrettes were given to friends and tucked away until recently... I figured out the other day that a little bit of velcro (the prickly half) on the inside of these makes them stick really well in hair, and now that my hair is shorter, I'm always looking for fun clips...
so ... here's something I can do while feeling awfully weak... using up scraps of ribbon, yoyos, old buttons galore... The funniest part to me was thinking back to when I made the first batch. I remember them taking forever to make - days. And I only made about 10. But this batch was made last night and this morning, while home sick from church... and I whipped them out.
I guess years of crafting can make you faster even at the little things.

new stuff

so, we have a few new samples in the etsy shop tonight...

1- a couple of Blue Sky Girl sample skirts that are on super sale... lucky you, if you get them!
2 - the purses have been DRAMATICALLY reduced - we're getting tired of looking at the same ones and we've lowered them as much as we can in the hopes of getting them to good homes
3 - the headbands are up.
4 - and a new pattern that we're thinking about - we have 2 mediums available in that one.

Today's project with the design director

Okay, so the intention would be to wear clothing with this... But you can see my design director wearing today's project. (we made 30 of them... So there are enough for party favors at the impending October birthday party)
Mommy has one on too... We even made bitty ones... So we have them for dolls and babies, girls and mommas.
And no, the yoyo police haven't come yet.
We will get some up on etsy soon ($8), but let us know if you want one... For now they are all reddish pink, but some white and black ones will be available too...

Oh - and she wanted me to post this picture, because she was trying to look surprised...
