We are not putting bars on all the windows, just one additional particularly vulnerable one... And after much deliberation... We came up with this design for our windows. It was a tough choice, because Craftsman lines have an art deco flavor, but are mostly straight and
very clean... (Like jail bars?) but our Bachelder tile on the living room fireplace, ties in this grape design quite nicely.
We are so very pleased with how they came out... Our worst fear was that our newly bolstered house would begin to visually scream, "we've been robbed!"
But now instead, we have this shady garden like view from the living room, and a new element of beauty from the outside. Hooray for form meeting function!

I was truly horrified to read of your robbery. In my years of living there and in the years my friends lived there, they never had anything like that happen. I'm glad that you are "back in the saddle" so to speak. Your grapes are lovely and I can't tell you how much I miss that tile. I worked for over a year to remove the paint from a small patch of the tile and then my husband paid for Herk the Stripper to come out and restore the rest of the tile as a Valentine's Day gift.

I forgot to write back you about this! Fun to know you were peeking in here.... It was a scary thing for sure to have that happen, but as you know - the neighbors on this street are incredible and have really helped us to work through everything.
I hope you get a chance to see the "home tour" post I just did - so you can see what the house looks like these days with our family in it!
ps - tell your hubby thanks again for having the tile stripper come out. we LOVE LOVE LOVE it.
